'project' ghosted when try to 'save as' revit template

As to why, I cant exactly say.

However this is the situation. A project can be saved as a template if it is not workshared, but not the other way around. In order to create a project from a template the solution is to do file NEW, then browse out to the template at which time you can choose your file that is a templete open it and it will come up as "Project 1" then you can do save as to where ever you need.

The other option is to change the last three letters of the revit file extension from rte to rvt - I try to not encourge this as it could possible lead to corupt files later on.

Roof thickness not showing correctly.

To add side note to this discussion. Often when coordinating a project with structural I will Model the roof systems minus the structure(only to the sheathing typcically) when placed at the proper bearing elevation(top of beam for structural) the entire roof assembly is created, also then add a ceiling that is only the finish below the structure.

You basically get a roof - air space(structure) - finish ceiling. This also work well in floor systems.

Revit MEP 2010 Electrical Equipment Switchboard Family

Yeah,

That does not really work in Revit 2010. The panel schedules are waaaaaaaaaay better in 2011. Most Electtrical Engineers are not using that feature in anything previous to 2011 because it is so broken.

Sorry but you should look at upgrading to get the new functionality.

I am not saying it is perfect, still having some trouble with the distribution panels and the switchboard panels but if you can take a bit of difference you should be able to get your loads to work out in the switchboard panel.

Plus you can edit the panel schedules to look the way you want (with a bit of work and some acceptance of how Revit is doing the calcs).

Sorry to sound like a cheerleader for this but the E world has been waiting for proper electrical stuff for 4 years now.

Using 3d Views

Im Curious as to what people have found for utilizing 3d Views in the documents. Currenlty I Use them in a variety of ways, dimensions and text are effective in calling out information, Utilzing rendered views as underlays of a drawings to give greater information about where a drawing is in relation to the over all project. However the part that is frustrating is the lack of ability to callout properties in the Model. In Plans and Elevations I can utilize Materials Tags, to callout and refrence the materials, using furniture, multicatagory Tags, and assembly code tags, along with Keynotes to refrence outside data and embedded data. However why can I not create these same refrence in 3d view, ideally all 3d views but would be satisfied with isometric view and leave the perspective(cameras) for pretty pictures). This seams like a lacking in Revit that would have been fixed a long time ago, and if we want to dream while were at it how about 3d details, detail components that are work plane based (Acctual this is almost possible utilize generic families with model lines only)

What are others doing to work with these issues and 3d views.

Solid Extrusions vs Model Lines

We orginally had many Symbolic only families (we use symbolic lines per view rather than model lines with visibility) and still have a number of families that work like that.

However we noticed that connectors would not work right on reference planes so we had to put back some 3D geometry, but in cases where we created that 3D back we greatly simplified the forms to reduce their footprint. We also found that a well modeled 3D form does not use much more than model lines, but typically 5%-10% more than symbolic lines multiplied by the number of instances of the family. So our funriture is slowing the model down whereas our toilets are not so much. Many of our fixtures that need connectors to be properly located are now modeled while furniture is still symbolic unless rendering is necessary.

Wall Trim Command Problems

In the past I had this issue and it came down to the wrapping setting - which layers of the structure wrap, interior vs exterior. The ways I fixed it have been to adjust those settings. Also in some instance I have found it works to pull both wall back about a 1' and the utilize the trim to to put them back together, this seems to solve issue where odd angles occur.

Pipe Rise / Drop Annotation Size

Checked my rise/drop and can set the value to 1/16" with no problem. Symbol responds correctly. Checked my units and lenght is set to 1/32. Howver changing the rounding to 1/4" and 1" does not change the value in the Rise/drop nor the size.

This 2010 or 2011? I tried in 2011. Maybe a bug?

Referencing an elevation on an elevation, after the fact.

Brian,

Actually that is the prefered method with elevations because it prevents the two elevations "bugs" from being right on top of each other. We avoid elevation callouts alltogehter and use sections with a callout-Reference other view to the section or detail.

You current method is spot on.
